Hi, my name is Amanda. I am a Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate (RCT-C) with a Masters in counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I completed my undergraduate degree at Laurentian University in Sudbury Ontario where I received a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Psychology.
For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for psychology and helping people. During my undergraduate degree, I realized my passion for counselling psychology and it became my dream to become a counselling therapist. However, after my graduation at 22, I felt I was too immature and sheltered to immediately pursue this goal. So before I began my Masters in Counselling, I spent my 20’s living, working, and traveling in Asia. In 2014 I was lucky enough to enjoy a year of independent travel across 7 countries. My time in Taiwan, India, and Nepal created and fuelled my passion for mindfulness and meditation. This passion has lead me to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Humanistic-Existential Therapies, as well as, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, which are the modalities that most inform my practice.
My experience living in a collectivist culture and traveling independently has provided me with insights and expanded worldview considerably. I believe my experiences help me to connect with a diverse range of individuals, and help me to stay open-minded, non-judgmental, and curious about the many differences between peoples outlooks, experiences, and beliefs.
